Where are libraries around the world focusing their advocacy efforts? And what activities are they undertaking to achieve them? IFLA’s Regional Advocacy Priorities Study draws on results to a survey to provide a starting point for thinking about where and how we advocate.
Join this webinar to find out more about the results of the Study, and some of the possible trends and issues it raises. Following a presentation of the data and of these tentative conclusions, there will be time to ask questions.

The IFLA Audiovisual & Multimedia Section invites you to a webinar, "Literacy & Representation: Teaching Media & Visual Literacies Across Communities"
Description: We are living in a turbulent, visual landscape that has proven the importance of media and visual literacy to our students now more than ever. Every day students are bombarded with images and visual media from numerous sources without having the skills needed to understand the messages being sent and the level of reliability of their creators. Media and visual literacy skills are also not inherently a part of our natural skillset as humans; these are skills that need to be taught, learned, and practiced.
This presentation is the result of a collaboration between three librarians at Indiana University Bloomington Libraries and is based on the three librarians' areas of expertise, media, and visual literacy, as well as their individual identities. The presentation will use these literacies as a lens through which to explore civil rights and social justice issues and emphasize the importance of supporting neurodiverse communities.
Outcome: Attendees of this presentation will learn how to incorporate media and visual literacy into their classrooms, to be more aware of a variety of perspectives and communities, and how to encourage and create a safe and inviting space where all learners can be vulnerable and grow.

IFLA SCITECH: The Carpentries & Author Carpentry

This webinar will provide a brief introduction to The Carpentries instructional philosophy of researcher-to-researcher computational training. We’ll then discuss Author Carpentry, an independent set of modules that can be integrated into a Carpentries Workshops or taught as an independent curriculum. They cover topics not traditionally included in a Carpentry Workshop, such as open authorship, writing in standard formats like Markdown, creating a reproducible and interactive report in RStudio, digital object identifiers, and ORCID IDs. We’ll discuss the future of Author Carpentry and ways you can be involved in the development of this open curriculum.
Presenter: Tom Morrell is the Research Data Specialist at Caltech Library. He manages the CaltechDATA institutional repository for research data and software, and helps Caltech researchers share their results with the world. Tom has been a certified Carpentry instructor for five years and taught numerous Software and Data Carpentry Workshops. Tom also helped create the Author Carpentry curriculum and has taught Author Carpentry lessons at Caltech and the FORCE 11 Scholarly Communication Institute (FSCI). Tom has a background in computational chemistry and brings a researcher-focused perspective to his work.
