CALL FOR INTERNATIONAL PAPER SESSION

The American Library Association International Papers Committee invites proposals for papers for the ALA Annual Conference to be held in Washington, D.C. from June 26 through July 2, 2008.

The International Papers Program provides librarians with an opportunity to exchange information about library services and collections throughout the world. The program also serves to stimulate the interest of U.S. librarians in international library matters.

The International Relations Round Table (IRRT) invites librarians to submit a paper abstract. The 2008 International Papers Program theme is “Re-Assess, Reassign, and Reinvent: Collection Building Without Global Borders”. Librarians have long been interested in resource-sharing and collection enhancement on a worldwide basis. Political turmoil, economic restraints, and lack of professional personnel impede on collection development efforts of many libraries. This program explores global efforts to improve distribution of publications to library collections. The focus is on successful initiatives, and will provide helpful advise on assuring that library surplus materials reach their destinations on a timely, cost-effective manner.
SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL
The first deadline for proposals is Friday, December 28, 2007. Priority will be given to those entries received by this date. The final deadline will be January 18, 2008. Proposals and final papers must be written in English and presenters are expected to deliver their papers in English at the ALA Annual Conference. The tentative date for presentation is Saturday, June 28, 2008.

A maximum of four (4) papers will be selected for presentation. Four (4) alternate papers will also be chosen. Final notification of selected papers will be made by February 15, 2008.
